PHOTOGRAPHERS in Ross-shire with a penchant for wildlife have less than a fortnight to put themselves in the running to snap up thousands of pounds worth of prizes.

With an overall prize pot of £20,000, British Wildlife Photography Awards were established to recognise the talents of photographers working in Britain, while at the same time highlighting the great wealth and diversity of Britain’s natural history.

The driving motivation to set up the awards evolved through the nation's growing awareness of the environment and the need for its protection.

Winners and commended entries will have their work showcased in a national touring exhibition launching at the very first Wildlife XPO at Alexandra Palace and in a stunning book published by AA Publishing.

There are 11 adult categories, as well as three special awards to encourage young people and schoolchildren to connect with nature. Unlike other wildlife competitions these awards are uniquely British.

The competition will be closing at midnight on Thursday, June 2. To find out more, see www.bwpawards.co.uk
