Ross superstore reaches to the Skye as new service is launched

A ROSS-SHIRE supermarket is to extend its reach to the island of Skye this week as a new service 'clicks' in.

Isle of Skye shoppers are now able to order groceries from Tesco.com for the first time as the retailer launches a Click & Collect service from its Dingwall store.

Items will be picked and then driven to Skye in two purpose-built dot.com "community vans".

There will be two delivery points on Skye - one at the Portree Social Club, Skye Camanachd at Parc Nan Laoch in Struan Road and the other in Broadford town centre.

The service is now live online at www.tesco.com/groceries for customers to place orders with the first collections set to be made this Wednesday.

On the website customers can select their collection point, choose which time slot they need and then order their groceries.

To celebrate the new service, youngsters at every primary school on Skye have been invited to enter an art competition creating fun pictures and paintings of the new service to be in with a chance to win a £500 donation for their school and a Tesco Hudl tablet for the winning pupil.

The winning artwork will then be printed on hundreds of jute shopping bags which will be available at the winning school and in the local Skye community.

Welcoming the new service, Janet Gillies of Portree, who has been campaigning for over six years to attract Tesco to the island, said: ”This is fantastic news. It is just what we need and means cheaper prices, better quality, greater convenience and a much better selection of food for everyone here.”

Online grocery shopping is becoming more popular in the UK. Since it pioneered the service in 1998, Tesco has delivered over 170 million grocery orders.
