A FRESH-FACED batch of newcomers will be looking to make an impression when they go to schools in Ross-shire next week.

Joining pupils returning following the long summer break will be eight probationers setting out on their new careers.

The Ross-shire intake is amongst a total of 80 newcomers welcomed to the Highlands at a special induction in Inverness yesterday.

The new probationers who will be working in Highland schools for the new session were welcomed at their induction by councillor Bill Fernie, chairman of Highland Council’s education, culture and sport committee, and Hugh Fraser, the director of education, culture and sport.

Pupils return to school following their summer break on Tuesday, August 16.

The probationer induction day is the first of a number of in-service training days throughout the year specifically allocated to probationer teacher induction and training.

The newcomers in Ross-shire are: Avoch Primary (Nicola Morgan); Bridgend Primary (Laura Nealon); Coulhill Primary (Colin Masterson and Katie Patience); Gairloch Primary (Victoria Hutton); Mulbuie Primary School (Lauren McLennan), North Kessock Primary(Miss Julie Dyer) and Tarradale Primary (Miss Vicky Johnston).
