A kind-hearted couple cleared up a fly-tipping mess in Lochcarron that left locals feeling “so angry”. Last Sunday (April 20), a local was shocked to discover a fly-tipping mess just past the Smugglers Cove, near Leacanashie Walk.

Our readers shared their thoughts on social media.

Karen Legar said: “That’s absolutely disgusting.”

Wendy Lyon commented: “I think it’s easy to assume that all bad behaviour of every description is tourists - this isn’t the case — locals also dump rubbish and do unsociable things. Whilst the majority of problem behaviours like bad driving is mainly tourists it’s not all tourists. Just to add a bit of balance. We have witnessed both sides.”

Cameron Michaels stated: “Utterly selfish, irresponsible and disgusting behaviour. Sadly it’s all too common.”

Phil Jones added: “It's not just the fact that this is an eyesore, it also presents a direct hazard to wildlife such as deer or badgers who often smell food and start rooting in the bags.”

An Ullapool trans man spoke out against the Supreme Court’s ruling on the legal definition of a “woman”, with him stating that “men do not need a disguise to attack women”. Raised in Ullapool, Jordan Hartley is a 21-year-old trans man, who now works as an in-house photographer for an Edinburgh music promoter and as a part-time barista.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh councillor Liz Kraft said: “Thank you [Ross-shire Journal] for writing this story. The voices of lived experience must be heard.”

Vik Taylor Stonebridge commented: “Well done Jordan on speaking out, which is not easy in the current environment.”

Spring has sprung across Ross-shire and brought with it an abundance of fresh faces in fields across the region. Amongst them are Betty and her lamb at Inverpolly Estate, based north of Ullapool on the west coast.

Jim McMaster said: “You won’t get better than an Inverpolly ewe with their lamb.”

Daydream Draws commented: “There is nothing cuter than seeing that first lamb of the year.”

Inverpolly Estate said: “As if Betty doesn’t have enough attitude, she was on the front page of the Ross-shire Journal [last week], going to be a right diva!”

Fiona Richard stated: “Gorgeous. She’ll be demanding wardrobe/make-up, the freshest of fresh grass hand picked in the morning!”

Norma Coates added: “ I will be coming for her autograph!”
