‘Shambles’, public issue their thoughts as Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire still waiting to find out elected MP
The public have been sharing their thoughts on the vote counting fiasco for Inverness, Skye West Ross-shire.
After polling day yesterday and a count in Dingwall overnight, followed by a recount this morning, the result of the constituency is still unknown.
The chaos led to the count being abandoned this morning, with another recount - a third count overall - set to take place at the same venue tomorrow.
Elly Russell said: “Are we surprised? this is the Highland Council! Predictable.”
Tracy Steadwood said: “People doing the count will have been there since 9pm. Many of them after working a full day and probably working today.”
Barbara McKee commented: “What is so difficult! You count the votes and give the results. The rest of the country seems to manage.”
John Stanners saidL “What happens if they are unable to resolve the discrepancy between votes entering the count and votes actually counted?
“Unless, of course, they can clearly identify where those votes have gone and count them. Transparency is required.”
Karin Thain said: “We would like to know the result like the actual rest of the country”
David Cullen commented: “What a Shambles The Highland Council.”
Highland Council are still to issue a public notice on social media to say that the count has been abandoned until tomorrow.
