Sheep sale verdict after 740 change hands at Dingwall Mart

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 740 sheep and 11 prime cattle at a sale yesterday.

Prime bullocks averaged 302.2p per kg and sold to 313.0p per kg for a 650kg Limousin Cross from Sunnylea, Balblair selling to John M Munro, (Butchers), Dingwall and £2,044.80 gross for a 710kg Simmental Cross from Wester Muckernich, Muir of Ord.

Prime heifers averaged 302.1p per kg and sold to 319.0p per kg for a 540kg Limousin Cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall selling to Fraser Brothers (Butchers) Ltd, Dingwall and £1,992.90 gross for a 730kg Simmental Cross from Wester Muckernich, Muir of Ord.

A total of 740 prime sheep were also sold.

New season lambs (367) sold to 276.0p per kg for a pen of Texel Crosses from Glebe Farm, Allarburn and £131 gross for a pen of Texel Crosses from Charleston, North Kessock selling to John M Munro (Butchers), Dingwall.

Feeding sheep (373) sold to £180 for a Texel Cross Ewe from Woodside, Muir of Tarradale.

The verdict: “Lambs cashed in at comparable rates despite some under finished articles forward. Ewes continue to meet a firm enquiry being every bit as dear as last week.”
