Ross-shire rail passengers warned of disruption after snow and strong winds hit Kyle and Far North lines, ScotRail confirms
SNOW and strong winds has sparked major rail disruption on some Highland railway lines, ScotRail has confirmed.
Because of the forecast for frequent showers and blizzards – which were even falling to sea level in the heart of Inverness – ScotRail has issued a number of cancellations and early terminating journeys.
These affect the Far North Line and Kyle Line.
The 6.18am Wick to Inverness service has terminated at Helmsdale, while the 7am Inverness to Wick service proceeded no further north than Dingwall.
The 6.11am Kyle to Inverness train was also cancelled outright.
Rail chiefs have also warned that disruption could continue until midday – putting other services as potential risk of disruption, or knock-on issues caused by the earlier cancellations.
Passengers are asked to check www.scotrail.co.uk before travel to see if their journey is affected.
Monday’s disruption follows a period of travel misery for Highland rail passengers, with Sunday rail strikes and a series of weather disruption in the first half of last week, all causing delays and cancellations to some services.
