Solar panels planned for roof of Wester Ross kirk building

General news.
General news.

Solar panels look set to be installed on the roof of a former Wester Ross kirk after plans were lodged with Highland Council.

Aultbea Community Hub is seeking permission to install 28 solar panels on the east and west facing roofs of the former Church of Scotland building in Aultbea.

If approved, 14 panels would be erected on the east-tilted part of the roof, and another 14 on the part of the roof angled to the west.

The proposal is part of wider upgrading of the building for use as a community hub.

If follows a separate application, since approved by Highland Council, to extend the church building and create a car park for use by the new hub.

Under those approved proposals, the hub will build small extensions on the north and south gables of the kirk and also create a dedicated 25-vehicle car park in an adjoining field.

The building extension would result in the creation of new male, female and disabled toilets, a new entrance lobby, sorting office, storage room, plant room and meeting room/flexspace.
