StrathPetal is set for June Organisers of Strathpeffer’s first ‘open gardens’ weekend are appealing for green-fingered locals to pot-on a few extra seedlings this year.

StrathPetal is set for June 15 and 16and will see more than 20 gardens in the Victorian village open their gates to the public. It will raise money for the British Red Cross as well as village projects such as its community orchard and playpark.

One of the organisers, Frances Williams, said: ‘Strathpeffer is such an interesting village with some wonderful gardens for people to explore. We were inspired by the success of Cromarty’s Open Gardens initiative and felt sure Strathpeffer would be just as popular.

“We’ve kept the entry fee at £5 but it would be wonderful if folk could help us swell our coffers by donating plants for our plant stall. We’d really welcome any surplus annuals, divisions or plug plants.”

As well as the chance to look round local gardens, there will be tea and cakes at the StrathPetal event, plus a tombola, live music and the services of a vintage CalMac bus to help people get around the garden locations.

Alison Munro, also on the organising team, said: “The frequency and scale of emergencies around the world are increasing at an alarming rate.

“Now more than ever The British Red Cross needs our help to provide life-changing humanitarian support to the people who need it most. Every single penny counts.

“So we hope plenty of folk will come along to StrathPetal, enjoy Strathpeffer’s gardens and support both our local volunteer-led gardening projects and the work of the Red Cross.”

You can find out more details about times and where to register on the day, from the event’s website: bit.ly/strathpetal or on Facebook at ‘Strathpetal – Strathpeffer Open Gardens.’

If you’ll have any plants to donate to the event, please let the grateful organisers know by dropping them an email at strathpetal@gmail.com
