Pedal power plea for Tain Vintage Car Rally as Prostate Scotland cycle challenge returns
WHILE most of the star attractions will have four wheels, this year's eagerly anticipated Tain Vintage Car Rally will again witness a much more modern mode of 'transport' – which visitors are being actively encouraged to mount.
The event is staged at The Links in Tain as part on Sunday and will once again be attended by members of Tain and Easter Ross Rotary involved in a quirky sponsored event helping raise awareness of and funding for an important cause.
Last year, members set themselves a £500 target to raise £1 for every mile of the North Coast 500 route on static bikes.
The event raised cash for Prostate Scotland and helped throw the spotlight on an issue which health chiefs believe men should be more open about.
The staggering success of last year's effort, which almost tripled the original target, has inspired a new challenge this time around.
The group's Will Porter said: "This year we are going to see how many times we can cycle a local loop, a 50-mile circuit of the Tarbat peninsula, which takes in some beautiful and breath-taking scenery and points of interest. And because we’ll be on static bikes, again we’ll be sure to have a map and photographs so you can see where you’re going and where you’ve been!
"Please come and help us, we’ll be raising funds for Prostate Scotland and raising awareness of Prostate issues. And if you are an actual road cyclist then you might want to join in with a wee team of local cyclists who are going to bike the road for real, starting and ending at the car rally. Last year our road cyclists were welcomed back to the Links by Tain Pipe Band. Who knows what treat will wait this year’s cyclists!"
He added: "It would be wonderful to try to raise as much again if we can."
The event runs from 10am until 3pm.
