Laura Dundas has been elected as a councillor for Tain and Easter Ross.

The by-election to elect a councillor to represent Ward 7 – Tain and Easter Ross on Highland Council has been won by Laura Dundas.

The Independent member was one of seven candidates who contested the vacancy created by the sudden death of former councillor Alasdair Rhind in April.

Voters went to the poll yesterday and the by-election count was held this morning in Tain Royal Academy.

The count was relayed live on the Council’s social media channels.

Voting was by the single transferable vote, wot voters ranking candidates in order of preference, and Ms Dundas emerged as the winner at stage 7 of the count.

The turnout was 34.9 per cent.

Ward 7 is a three-member ward and Laura Dundas will join fellow ward members Councillors Derek Louden (SNP) and Maureen Ross (Highland Independent) in representing the ward.
