Tain taxi driver’s ‘incredible’ gesture after vandals destroy four-year-old boy’s toy car
A young boy from Tain has a new set of wheels thanks to an act of kindness from a Tain-based taxi firm owner.
David Purvis, who runs DP Private Hire in Tain and Dornoch, reached to the family of four-year-old Jack Martin after hearing that vandals had stolen and damaged one of his favourite outdoor toys.

Mum, Yvonne Martin, had taken to social media to appeal for information after noticing Jack’s toy police car was missing from outside their garden, where it would usually be found.
Helpful Facebook users soon confirmed that they had spotted the car, which had been left “dumped” and damaged in a nearby car park.
After being left frustrated and disappointed by this senseless act of vandalism, Mrs Martin was taken aback by an “incredibly kind gesture” shown by taxi driver David Purvis.
Mr Purvis said: “I noticed the post appealing for the whereabouts of her son’s ‘cosy coupe’ police car on Facebook.
“She found out through comments throughout the day that it had been vandalised, adding insult to injury, and then dumped at the bus stop at Asda. It saddened me to think someone could steal a wee boy’s toy and destroy it.
“Yvonne and her husband Steven use my business quite regularly, so I decided that my private hire taxi business would cover the cost of a new replacement car and donate it to their wee boy Jack.
“He was obviously broken-hearted when his toy car was stolen and damaged, so to see the smile on his face in the photo when receiving it told a story alone, and I hope he has lots of fun with his new toy car.”
Mrs Martin said: “It is very frustrating and disappointing that people are stealing little ones’ toys and destroying them, but his generosity has brought so much joy to my children and has truly brightened their day.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to David at DP Private Hire Tain Dornoch for the incredibly kind gesture in replacing my son's toy car after it was stolen from the back of my house last week, before being destroyed and dumped.
“Thank you David for your thoughtfulness and kindness.”
