Tore woman’s ‘impressive’ photos win prestigious award
AN ‘impressive’ Tore photographer has been awarded with a prestigious accolade for her pictures.
Lynn Fraser (59) from the Black Isle has won the title of Amateur Photographer of the Year 2024, from weekly magazine Amateur Photographer.
The competition, which saw over 12,000 entries from over 2200 photographers, took place over 10 rounds throughout the year. With Lynn winning the title by just 10 points, it was a very close result.
Lynn, who is a former solicitor and archaeologist, said: “I can’t begin to describe how delighted I am. It was a close-run contest and I only won by 10 points. I’m still getting my head around the fact that over 2200 photographers entered over 12,000 images!”
Alongside her husband, Lynn now runs the Black Isle Berries farm shop and accommodation. She told Amateur Photographer magazine that she began taking photos as a child when she was given a Kodak Instamatic 100. Lynn said that she began to take photography more seriously in 2014, and “hasn’t looked back since”.
The subject of Lynn’s work is often travel photography, with her winning images having been taken in the likes of Ethiopia, South Sudan and the Western Isles.
Nigel Atherton, editor of the Amateur Photographer magazine, said: “Lynn has impressed us all throughout the year with her work. She has avoided the most common travel cliches by visiting off-the-beaten-track places and her portraits of the people she met were made with skill and sensitivity. It’s no surprise that she scored points in every round. Congratulations to a deserving winner.”
When asked by Amateur Photographer magazine if she would encourage others to enter the competition, she said: “I would encourage everyone to give it a go! It’s a great exercise in curating your images. And once your entries are in, forget about it!”
