An Ullapool paramedic has shared the life-saving importance of a charity, and is encouraging everyone to support their work at an award-winning local seafood takeaway’s fundraising day.

On Saturday (September 7), The Seafood Shack and Rhidorroch Distillery will be donating all their profits from the day to The Sandpiper Trust — a self-funded charity dedicated to providing doctors, nurses and paramedics in rural Scotland with the essential equipment they need to save lives.

As well as renowned fresh seafood and cocktails from the two Ullapool businesses located on West Argyle Street, the fundraising day will also feature a large raffle with generous prizes, face painting, games, live music and a cowboy theme.

Explaining the importance of The Sandpiper Trust, local paramedic Donna Couper Macgregor said: “I respond as a volunteer advanced paramedic while off duty from the Scottish Ambulance Service. I respond to emergencies in our local area, particularly when our ambulance is out of the area.

“The Sandpiper Trust supports Basics Scotland by providing all the necessary equipment I need in order to provide this service. Our GP and Out of Hours colleagues also benefit from the kit provided by them.

“I have been a responder for many years, and by default the Sandpiper Trust has assisted and saved many lives within remote and rural communities throughout Scotland, I’m very grateful to them and to everyone that supports their amazing work."

The Seafood Shack said: “We chose this charity as it is a lifesaving product they provide, and therefore so vital for us in the Highlands where emergency services are limited.

“Come along on September 7, to join in on our fundraising where we as The Seafood shack and Rhidorroch distillery, will be donated our full profits from the day to this amazing charity.

“The theme for the day will be cowboy... because, well why not! We have a large raffle with very generous prizes, face painting, many games, live music all day and of course delicious cocktails and fresh seafood.”
