Ullapool photographer captures northern lights dancing above Wester Ross
A LOCAL photographer has captured breath-taking new images of the northern lights above Ardmair, near Ullapool.
While on the A835 road north of Ullapool last night (April 15), Dave Stewart snapped these stunning images of the aurora borealis dancing in the sky above Ardmair beach in Wester Ross. The outlines of Isle Martin, the Summer Isles and Stac Pollaidh can be seen in the pictures as silhouettes.
Dave said: “Decent blast of aurora last night. From the dump road, Ardmair, the lay-by when you first see Stac Pollaidh and Elphin.”
As defined the National Geographic Society, the northern lights are “brightly coloured bands of light, visible around Earth’s geomagnetic poles, caused by solar wind interacting with particles in Earth’s magnetic field”.
