Ullapool Unpacked zero-waste shop's national award is 'something I've dreamed about for long time'
Ullapool's very own zero-waste shop, Ullapool Unpacked, has been awarded a grant of £50,000 to continue growing their business in the heart of the community.
Evie Strange launched Ullapool Unpacked C.I.C. after being "daunted by how much waste a child could produce" following the birth of her daughter Thea. She decided that she would do something about it.
The shop based in Ullapool Village Hall sells everything loose with no packaging, so that customers can bring a reusable container and fill it with your desired product and amount.
The Innovate UK award of £50,000 will support Evie in growing her business, which aims to help the community produce less waste through the accessible, affordable and sustainable refill shop and community climate hub. As well as the grant, Evie will also receive 12 months of tailored business support to help her shop grow, and stimulate the local economy.

Evie said: "I am delighted to have won this Innovate UK award. I started Ullapool Unpacked five years ago and to have that hard work recognised and to be able to provide this service for my community is something I have dreamed about for a long time! The award will also allow me to share all I have learnt with other young people and be a role model for fighting for what you believe in. ”
Ullapool Unpacked has plans to use the grant to open a community refill shop and Climate Hub.
