UPDATE: A9 at Kingussie reopens after three-vehicle smash and seven-hour closure
THE A9 has reopened near Kingussie following an earlier three-vehicle collision which triggered a significant emergency response.
It was initially closed northbound near the junction with the A86 at Kingussie at around 2pm this afternoon following the accident.

The fire service earlier reported that it received the call at 2pm and sent three appliances from Aviemore, one volunteer unit from Carrbridge and one heavy rescue unit from Inverness.
There were reports of heavy build-ups of traffic.
Traffic Scotland, which monitors Scotland’s trunk roads, later reported that the road had been closed in both directions, saying at 4pm that emergency vehicles remained at the scene and advising people to avoid the area.
The incident was finally reported to be over shortly after 9pm this evening when the road was reopened.
There is no official word at this point about any casualties.
