BREAKING: A9 closed near Aviemore after vehicle fire

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service says no-one was hurt in the incident.

There is a heavy build-up of traffic in both directions.

A spokesman said: “Our crew got there to find the lorry on fire, but it looked worse than it was. It was just a wheel that had caught fire.

“We sent three appliances and they deployed two hose reel jets because it required quite a lot of water to extinguish. They also used an electric saw, an extension ladder and thermal imaging equipment.

“There were no injuries.”

The fire service departed the scene at 6.26 am, but police remain at the scene.

An AA Scotland spokesman said: “The road is closed and heavy traffic evident due to a truck fire on the A9.

“It is closed both ways from Aviemore turn off to the A95, with a detour in operation - via the B9152 Grampian Road through Aviemore and Kincraig.”
