UPDATE: Firefighters urge public to ‘stay away’ from wildfires and heavy smoke at Stac Pollaidh

Firefighters are urging the public to stay away from wildfires after an outbreak at Inverpolly Forest near Stac Pollaidh earlier today.

Six Scottish Fire & Rescue Service appliances were mobilised to tackle the blaze which took hold early this morning north of Ullapool, which is still ongoing as firefighters try to bring it under control.

Police closed junctions on the nearby A835 coastal road at Achiltibuie and Badnagyle after wildfires were reported at around 9.50am.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: “Firefighters are battling a wildfire at Stac Pollaidh, Inverpolly Forest, north of Ullapool.

“We were alerted at 8.24am on Sunday, April 6, to reports of an outdoor fire.

“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances to the scene. Firefighters continue to work to bring the wildfire under control.

“There is heavy smoke in the area, and members of the public are urged to stay away.

“Please share this information to keep others informed and safe.”
