Inverness business park hit by fire





Firefighters remain at the scene of a huge fire which started overnight in Inverness.

It is understood the blaze at Fairways Business Park, off the Southern Distributor Road, has destroyed some business premises.

It is unclear which units have been damaged but the fire appears to be in a building used by Harry Gow bakery and a barbers. Other buildings nearby including Fairways golf centre and restaurant, Inverness Kart Raceway and the Indoor Bowling Stadium.

Nobody has been reported to have been injured during the incident.

It is not known if the fire is being treated as suspicious.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.50pm on Saturday, March 8 to reports of a building fire in Inverness.

"Operations Control mobilised six appliances to the scene, just off the B8082, where firefighters were met by a well-developed fire.

"Crews currently remain on scene working to extinguish the fire.

"There are no reported casualties."

A Police Scotland spokesperson reiterated: “There are no reported injuries.

“People should avoid the area if possible.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances.”

Inverness Kart Raceway has stated: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, all races have been cancelled for Sunday, March 9.

“We hope to get more information to everyone affected as soon as possible.”

Inverness South councillor Duncan Macpherson said: “Thinking of all the local businesses affected and their staff at this difficult time.

“The sterling efforts and excellent teamwork by firefighters, including retained firefighters from nearby stations outwith Inverness, ensured that the fire was contained to the one building that held several local businesses and prevented the fire from reaching any other of the nearby buildings.

“Grateful thanks to all the brave firefighters and to all the emergency services in attendance throughout the night at this major incident emergency.”
