WATCH: Invite to Dingwall locals for community woodland tree-planting drive
A TRANSFORMATIONAL community woodland overlooking Ross-shire's county town is poised for dramatic growth over the next two months with thousands of trees set to be planted by locals.
Dingwall Community Woodland is hosting 11 tree-planting days across January and February to place no fewer than 7200 trees. It will create an area which will include an all-abilities path, pond and space for locals to connect with nature.
Knockbain Farm secured support from Scottish Forestry and the Community Woodland Association after proposing to transform one of its fields on the west side of the town into a woodland to benefit locals and wildlife.
A consultation produced 100 per cent local backing for the project, which started last winter.
It aims to promote biodiversity, help fight climate change and offer recreational opportunities for locals. It will offer educational opportunities too as well as being a source of "green therapy" townsfolk.
A steering group includes Richard Lockett, Josie Fraser, Paul Atherton, Laura Greer, Shona Paterson, Deborah Van Leer, Audrey MacDonald, and Erica Harrap.
Drop-in sessions will run from10am to 12.30pm on the following dates: January 13, 14, 21, 27 and 28 and February 4,10,11,18, 24 and 25.
No previous experience is needed as the woodland team will be on hand to give a demonstration at each session. Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided for volunteers.
