WATCH: Ullapool horse gives forest sleigh rides after 12-inch overnight snowfall
An overnight snowfall of 12-inches in Wester Ross has created severe weather conditions across the region, with the Highland Council advising not to travel certain routes.
However the travel restraints and school closures has not stopped some locals from seeing the silver lining. Timber the horse from Leckmelm woods, near Ullapool, has been giving sleigh rides to his pals.
Emma Planterose Magenta shared the pictures with Ross-shire Journal of Timber taking dog Cali, cat Smokey Pink Cirrus, and the kids for a spin on the sleigh.
Unfortunately, the snow has not led to such picturesque scenes for everyone. The Highland Council road report for January 18 reported that there was an overnight snowfall of 12-inches in some Wester Ross areas. This has resulted in snow drifting in some places, including the A832 Fain road between Baremore and Gairloch, which the council have advised to avoid altogether during the current adverse weather conditions.
The C1047 between Drumrunie and Achiltibuie is also not an advised travel route by the council, due to a breakdown that has resulted in all services being deployed.
For Easter Ross, the council says that all routes are being treated, and that treatment will continue throughout the day. The council also clarified that roads are being treated by priority on the network hierarchy.
The heavy overnight snow has also resulted in more than 9000 Highland children staying home today, January 18, due to school and nursery closures throughout the region.
Some mock exams for this week are also being affected by the closures with individual schools set to keep their communities informed.
