Wester Ross sports club’s 25-mile bed push raises much-needed funds
A WESTER Ross shinty club have raised much-needed funds after pushing a bed for 25 miles.
Kinlochshiel Shinty Club, around four miles east of Kyle of Lochalsh, is run solely by volunteers and is “always needing money” according to the team’s manager Willie MacRae. He said: “I was looking at how we could raise £1500, which would buy around 15 new shinty sticks. Also with the price of fuel nowadays, that money would go a long way to keep us going — the club’s always needing money.”
Willie then came up with the idea of the dozen-person doing bed push from Totaig to Kyle, covering an ambitious 25 miles.
“It was a long day for us,” said Willie. “We left at 10am and got to Kyle at 4.15pm — including our stop at Eilean Donan Castle for a half hour to eat lunch.
“I heard of someone doing a bed push years ago, pushing a bed up Ben Nevis and things like that and so I thought it would be a good idea — and it’s quite easy for four people to push it. It was also good just to get the team together.”
So far, the fundraiser has raised around £1300 with the JustGiving page remaining open for donations at the time of writing. Visit the fundraiser on: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/kinlochshielbedpush
