Opponents have raised concerns over the impact on trade for existing local businesses, noise levels during and after construction, lighting arrangements, road safety, and the possible loss of scenic views towards The Minch.
A spokesman confirmed that although an updated programme detail is awaited, “Co-op has ambitions to open the new store before the end of the year”.
The store will have a sales area of approximately 3500s q ft (325m²).
A store of this size would typically create around 15 local jobs.
It will include 26 parking bays including 4 EV chargers and dedicated spaces for camper vans.
A spokesman said: “The store will include a focus on fresh and healthy produce, food-to-go and meal deals; bakery and dairy goods; Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers; meal ideas and, ready meals, award winning wines and every day essentials.
“Member prices create additional value for Co-op’s member-owners, with personalised offers for members and lower prices on the products shoppers buy most.
“Co-op has also launched its biggest ever value campaign, matching Aldi prices on over 100 everyday essentials for its members including fresh fruit, milk, eggs and bread.”

The access and design statement argued that the proposal will create a renewed sense of community, with a small community hub and garden, while broadening, rather than diminishing the range of local amenities.
