Black Isle Horticultural Society summer show
Anticipation is growing over who will be crowned champion potato grower at the Black Isle Horticultural Society summer show on Saturday.
The Tub of Tatties competition, first held last year, is making a return for this year's show which takes place at the Gordon Memorial Hall in Rosemarkie.
And with high numbers of entries, there will be a separate slot for competitors to empty the buckets of tatties they have been growing since springtime before the hall doors open.
The show, which had a record turnout of exhibitors and visitors last year, also has sections for pot plants, cut flowers, fruit, vegetables, food, preserves, crafts, photography and botanical illustration, as well as young people’s and novice sections while cream teas have also become a feature in recent years.
Show secretary Graham Sullivan said the organisers are expecting a good show in spite of the recent poor weather.
"As well as folk coming along to see the show, we’re keen to encourage people who haven’t exhibited before to enter, and we’re happy to help them when setting up their exhibits at the hall or if they get in touch," he said.
"We’re expecting the Tub of Tatties competition to be a big feature.
"We sold 40 kits consisting of a bucket of the correct size, a label and a seed potato in the springtime, and there will be other entries as well.
"People have been growing their tatties since then, and on Saturday they’ll all empty their buckets and the crops will be weighed, with prizes for the highest yields."
The Tub of Tatties emptying takes place at 2pm, and the hall doors open to the public at 2.30pm.

Scene is set for TruckNess at Muir of Ord
Tickets for the Highlands’ biggest trucking event of the year are now on sale, after a huge turnout of 6000 people last year.
TruckNess is returning to the Highlands, where they will be raising money for MFR Cash for Kids north Highland.
The major trucking event is taking place at Muir of Ord’s Black Isle Showground on Saturday, August 12, 10am–5pm.
TruckNess was first staged to celebrate the fantastic contributions made by the people working in the haulage industry in the Highlands and Islands, as well as being an opportunity to raise funds for MFR Cash for Kids.
Event organiser George MacLennan said: “It all started as a small exhibition of trucks and grew from there, many of the trucks are quite spectacular.
“It was a way of getting the trucking community together once a year in the Highlands, and we decided to use it as an opportunity to make money for charity as well. We chose MFR Cash for Kids because of all they do in our local area, in the Highlands and east coast.”
The event brings truckers together from all corners of the UK, and charges £5 for adult tickets, £3 for under-16s and OAPs, £20 for truck entry, and under-5s go free.
