AN acclaimed Ross-shire amateur dramatics group is preparing for two nights of entertainment in the county town.

Dingwall Players follow the success of their ‘Life is a Cabaret?’ variety show with a return to the town’s National Hotel — which will be reinvented for two nights as Café Eccentrique, “a place where you can be who you want to be, feel safe and free to express yourself”.

Their show ‘It Takes All Sorts?’ comes following the difficult decision to cancel the annual pantomime at the end of last year.

The dates to mark in the diary are Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26.

The group’s Nick Fearne set the scene: “The emcee will guide you to a table. Have a drink and sit back to enjoy music from the fabulous house band, Sitting Pretty, song, spoken word and a play.

“The music and song covers a range of periods and styles from Piaf to contemporary artists, interspersed with witty dialogue, spoken word and a satirical sketch – wonder who that could be about?

“The evening’s entertainment also includes a short play - Thank You For Protesting by Paul Adam Levy. When a local government worker is tasked with replacing ‘a thing’ on a street with another ‘thing’, a nearby resident takes it upon herself to put a stop to it in a civilised, law-abiding and dignified manner.

“She soon gets in over her head when a younger, eager protester, steps in with a more direct approach…”

It Takes All Sorts? is supported by local businesses Specsavers Opticians & Healthcare Centre and Fitfellas & Wonderwomen, with raffle prizes donated by Café India, Ross County FC, Glen Wyvis Distillery and Country Garden Fruit & Veg.

Café Eccentrique is open for two nights only on April 25 and 26 from 7.30pm and is suitable for those of adult age. Tickets are £10 and are available online at dingwallplayers.org
