Ross-shire crew gets to grips with wildfire kit amidst SFRS ‘extreme’ warning status
AN Easter Ross crew has been getting to grips with new wildfire kit at a time when an “extreme risk” warning is in place.
The unit at Invergordon is an all terrain vehicle (ATV) housed on a trailer that is towed by a 4x4 vehicle. It also carries various equipment useful at wildfire incidents.
Ross-shire Community Fire Stations said in an update post that following completion of training attended by some of the crew earlier this month, it is now also crewing a wildfire resource.
It said: “This resource is in addition to an identical unit based at and crewed by our colleagues at Ullapool Fire Station.
“Please be mindful of the current wildfire warning live until the end of this week with warm weather forecasted over the next few days.”
An extreme wildfire risk is in place for the Highlands and Moray this week with warmer, drier weather.
As of Monday, extreme and very high alerts are in place in eastern Sutherland, Easter Ross, the Black Isle, Inverness and northern parts of the Great Glen. The alerts also spread east across all of Nairnshire and Moray and south into Badenoch and Strathspey.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), in conjunction with the Scottish Wildfire Forum, is urging the public to avoid lighting fires outdoors across all areas of Scotland during this period.
