Wind farm bid for Ross-shire estate revealed as public drop-ins confirmed
AN energy firm has revealed plans for a 27-turbine wind farm on moorland in two Ross-shire estates.
Coriolis Energy, with development partner ESB, will be consulting on proposals for Glasa Wind Farm, located within the Strathvaich and Kildermorie Estates, some 20 km north-west of Dingwall.
Initial assessments suggest the site could support a wind farm with a generating capacity of up to 189MW. The turbines would be 250m to blade tip height.
For perspective, iconic London landmark Big Ben is about 96 metres high. The London Eye is 135m in height.
A scoping request will be submitted to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU), to gather feedback on the environmental information which will accompany any forthcoming application.
Two in-person public exhibitions will take place next month:
April 1, Ardross Community Hall from 3-7pm.
April 2, Garve Public Hall from 3-7pm.
The public exhibitions will include the emerging wind farm proposals and an overview of the various environmental assessments that will be addressed in the Environmental Impact Assessment report. Coriolis and ESB will also provide information on the proposed community benefit fund for the development.
There will also be an opportunity for members of the public to talk to the project team and submit feedback, which will be used by the project team to help shape and inform the proposals.
James Baird, wind farm development manager at Coriolis Energy, said: “We are pleased to introduce our proposals for Glasa Wind Farm, and look forward to obtaining initial feedback from the local community, which along with our detailed technical and environmental assessments, will help shape and inform the proposals’”
In addition to providing feedback in person, Coriolis and ESB would welcome feedback online, which can be submitted via the dedicated project website https://glasawindfarm.com/
Glasa wind farm will be Scoped at up to 27 turbines each of up to 250m to blade tip height.
We asked the company for any illustrations it might have and it shared one of Kirk Hill Wind Farm in Ayrshire.
The Ross-shire wind farm, if approved, would have an operational capacity of up to 189MW.
Glasa wind farm is being developed under a joint development agreement between Coriolis Energy and ESB
If approved, and built, the wind farm will be owned and operated by ESB.
