Inverness hosts Highland Badminton Group Championship as Black Isle teenager celebrates double success





BLACK Isle teenager Josie Columbine celebrated double success at the Highland Badminton Group Championships in Inverness as she won two titles.

Columbine teamed up with Annika Sinha from Aberdeen to win the Girls’ Doubles title as they came out on top in a round robin tournament.

She also claimed victory in the Mixed Doubles tournament, winning the title with Callum Richardson. They defeated Matthew Cook and Ava Cook in the final 18-21, 21-14, 21-16.

The under-17’s singles boys’ final was won by Chetan Karimilla who beat Yuanxi Cui 21-19, 21-15.

The under-17’s girls’ singles final was won by Ava Cook who beat Kaiya Wilkes 21-13, 21-15.

Rory Meldrum and Alexander Mackay won the under-17 boys’ doubles title.

In the under-13’s tournament, Aarav Sinha claimed the boys’ title as he defeated Liam Sinclair 21-11, 21-9. Liam Wilby won the consolation title as he beat Lachlan Breau 21-7. Sophie Mackay from Caithness won the under-13’s girls title beating Anvita Awasthi, 21-15, 21-18.

Liam Sinclair and Aarav Sinha defeated Thomas Scott and Lewis Weir 21-2, 21-7 to win the boys’ doubles. Chloe Leask and Sophie Mackay claimed the girls’ doubles title after finishing top of a round robin competition.

Sophie Mackay and Aarav Sinha won the under-13 mixed doubles tournament.
