Boss says Ross County didn’t give fans much to be excited about away from home as he dedicates win at Dundee to travelling support - Ross County look to go into new year outside of relegation zone when they face Hearts in Dingwall
MANAGER Don Cowie dedicated Ross County’s 3-0 win at Dundee to the travelling support after they ended their 481 day wait for an away victory in the Premiership.
The boss says Ross County have not given fans enough to be excited about away from home in the last 15 months where before yesterday’s victory, they had not won on the road in the league since beating Kilmarnock 1-0 at Rugby Park on September 2, 2023.
Cowie and his team applauded the away section at full time and dedicated the victory to them, saying they had waited too long to see a victory on their travels.
He said: “I am delighted for the supporters, they travel across the country to support us.
“Over the last 15 months, we have not given them enough to get excited about. For all those there and those who couldn’t make it. I am delighted that we got three points on the road.
“A lot has been made of our away form, no matter how we could win a game, the manner didn’t matter. But the manner we did is pleasing.
“It has been a long time, since I came in the role it is a question that I have been asked a lot about and rightly so. Because until you end that run it will always be asked. To get that victory now, it has been put to bed. The manner which we did it is fantastic and hopefully it made County fans happy.”
The win means Ross County are in 10th place in the Premiership, two points ahead of Hearts in 11th as the two teams are scheduled to meet at the Global Energy Stadium on Sunday.
With the Staggies four points clear of St Johnstone at the bottom of the table, Ross County can go into 2025 outside of the relegation zone, if they can avoid defeat against the Jambos on Sunday.
Cowie says his team will be ready for the challenge.
He said: “It is important for where we can go in the league table. It is about the full squad, we need everybody ready and prepared to make an impact. That is the message going into this spell and is no different for Sunday’s game.”
