Boxing - Joy for Dingwall boxer who wins Scottish Development title in Motherwell
Dingwall boxer Luke Urquhart continued to strengthen his reputation in boxing as he became Scottish Development champion.
The Highland Boxing Academy athlete proved too good for his opponent as he knocked him out in the second round to claim the title.
It is the latest accomplishment for the athlete who has picked up some notable wins in his career so far.
He also picked up a gold medal at National Development Championships in Motherwell in November.
Urquhart’s coach Liam Foy said that he had to wait a long time for the final as there was a delay when the bout was able to take place.
However, when the moment arrived, Foy said Urquhart more than rose to the occasion

Foy said: “There was a spillover from the development championships earlier this year. But he managed to knock out his opponent to pick up the title so it was another phenomenal win.
“Luke is on a phenomenal streak just now. That is two tournaments he has navigated his way through. He is having to box multiple times to secure the title and he has done so in two of the development championships this season so far.”
Highland Boxing Academy also celebrated two major successes at the Golden Gloves championships.
Kian Stewart and Maria Cameron both recorded victories when they won their respective their categories as they both managed to secure the Golden Gloves title.
Foy said that both fighters are realising their potential as they picked up major victories in their young careers.
He said: “Kian is the number one at his age and weight in the country and he got the opportunity to box for the title.
“He has been going well at the club for some time and is undefeated since he came to us. He has won international boxing tournaments in Scotland, England and Wales. The Golden Gloves is the main competition in Scotland and to get him to secure that title was amazing.
“Maria winning the Golden Gloves title has been a long time coming. She has come close on a couple of occasions to pick up title and it was a special moment for her and the club for her to win.”
HBA athlete Brodie Zineldin was also competing at the tournament where he claimed a silver medal.
HBA fighters Robert Stewart, Luka Kusch, Alexander Russell are all set to be fighting in the competition this weekend.
