Lee Erwin came back to haunt his former club as his injury time winner gave Ross County all three points against Kilmarnock.

The striker followed up a rebound from Laurentiu Brancescu's save which crashed off the post from his original long range shot before firing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to give his team victory.

But Ross County face a sweat over Michael Gardyne after he was forced off injured after nine minutes after pulling his hamstring.

Co-managers Steven Ferguson and Stuart Kettlewell kept faith with the same 11 which beat Hibernian 2-1 10 days previously.

Kilmarnock had a golden chance to take the lead in the opening minutes when Liam Millar’s free kick almost found Darion Del Fabro in the six-yard box but he couldn’t guide the ball into the net.

But Ross County had a good period of possession with Brian Graham and Ross Stewart both going close to finding the net.

Chris Burke with a spectacular free-kick from 25 yards inches over the crossbar almost gave Kilmarnock the lead.

At the other end, Stewart was allowed to charge into the box and forced a great save from Brancescu who rushed off his line to block his shot.

In an end-to-end encounter, Killie’s Eamonn Brophy also chanced his luck from 25 yards with his shot going inches over the bar.

Ross County had a bright start to the second half with Josh Mullin charging down the right wing and his dangerous cross found Stewart whose shot was deflected for a corner.

From the next passage of play, Liam Fontaine had a chance in the six-yard box with his header blocked from finding the net.

Brophy caused panic down the left wing and his cross found Connor Johnson in the six-yard box who nodded the ball inches over the bar.

Brophy came close himself to giving Killie the lead when he only had the goalkeeper from 12 yards but Baxter did well to save.

At the other end, Erwin unleashed a spectacular shot from 20 yards which went inches wide of the left post.

Ross County piled on the pressure in the closing stages with Sean Kelly setting up Mullin in the box but the midfielder fired his shot wide of the left post from 12 yards.

But in injury time Brancescu parried Erwin's shot off the bar which landed straight into the path of the striker who made no mistake at the second time of asking, firing a low drive into the net to give Ross County the win.
