Derek Adams launches scathing attack on the standard of Scottish football after watching Ross County lose 1-0 to Dundee in Dingwall
Derek Adams launched a scathing attack on the standard of Scottish football after watching Ross County lose 1-0 to Dundee.
Both teams spurned a number of opportunities throughout the game, which was decided by Joe Shaughnessy with the last touch of the match.
Adams, who returned to Dingwall last month from Morecambe, was furious that the level of play was lower than what he had left behind in England's fourth tier – and he did not hold back in saying so.
“I thought it was rubbish," Adams said.
“I thought the game was poor, and I thought the standard was shocking.
"The standard since I’ve come back to this country is shocking. We’ve got to have a better product.

“Today, if I’m a paying customer, I don’t come to watch this football match.
“The standard has got to be a lot better. The way we pass the ball, create chances – it has to be better – and that’s for both sides.
“Ross County Football Club has to be better. Today I’ve seen some good play, but over the afternoon I’m standing on the touchline thinking ‘what a job you have got on here’.
“I’ve left a club that is 100 times better and we had the lowest budget in League Two. I just see some of the things that happened and think ‘seriously?’
“It is so disappointing. I’m so annoyed, just at the way the (Scottish) game is.
“Even the opposition. You want someone to show up and produce some entertainment. I’m not seeing anything.
“I don’t see any entertainment. If this is the best we’ve got in the country, what are we going to do?"
As far as the game itself went, Adams felt his side would have been good value for all three points – but acknowledged that County must be better at both ends of the park to ensure they are not disappointed again going forward.
“I do feel hard done to – I thought we were the better side over the afternoon," he reasoned.
“I thought we created the better openings. Dundee didn’t really trouble us, but we got sucker-punched at the end.
“We give away a free-kick and the ball hits off the post, but that takes nothing away from the afternoon.
“We were better than Dundee and Tony Docherty has to say that. We had the better chances, but we have to be better in that final third.
“You get paid to score goals, create assists, keep the ball out of the net – that’s your job.
“That’s my opinion. That’s what I see – and I bet there’s a lot more people in that stadium who see the same thing as I see.”
