Ex-Wycombe Wanderers attacker Alex Samuel returns to Scotland to sign for Ross County

Alex Samuel has become the latest part of Malky Mackay's Ross County revolution after signing a two-year deal in Dingwall.

The 25-year-old left Wycombe Wanderers at the end of last season, having been part of the side that won an unlikely promotion to the English Championship, but suffered relegation in their first campaign in the division.

Samuel had been touted as a bright prospect as a teenager, being linked with the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa, before opting to join his boyhood club Swansea City.

There, he spent time out on loan at Greenock Morton, where he scored four goals in 30 appearances for the Scottish Championship outfit.

Though his record does not show a prolific goalscorer, Samuel has caught the eye with a player of the year award at Newport County in 2017, and then a young player of the year award two years later with Wycombe.

“I’m delighted to have secured the signing of Alex Samuel," Staggies boss Malky Mackay said.

"At 25 years, he is a great age experience wise, has been part of a successful promotion winning team, and played at a really good level in the English game.

“Alex has already had a taste of Scottish football earlier in his career, and this is a new challenge for him. He is eager to succeed and will add to the competition for places at the top end of our team.”
