St Duthus chairman Niall Harkiss says the club provides an exciting project for whoever their next manager will be to work on.

The Tain Saints are searching for their next boss after the resignation of Alan Geegan, who has taken up a coaching role with Nairn County under the new man in charge at Station Park, Ross Tokely.

That brought an end to a six-year association with St Duthus for Geegan, who started out as a player in Tain before taking over the managerial reigns in 2021.

In his time with the club, he lifted the Football Times Cup as a player and the North Caledonian Cup as a manager, as well as leading St Duthus to three consecutive top-half finishes in the league.

Geegan’s may seem like big shoes to fill then, but Harkiss is optimistic of keeping the good times going when the right candidate is found to take over due to the effort that has been put in to strengthen the club on and off the pitch.

“Alan Geegan leaves with our best wishes after three memorable years, and if our next team manager shows the same investment and passion for the club that he did, then we will be doing very well,” Harkiss said.

“There is a lot to be excited about at the club, both on the field and off it.

“We are working hard behind the scenes to further strengthen our links with businesses and community groups in Tain. These strong roots, as well as our proud and well-documented history, provide the foundations for what we are always striving for – continued success on the pitch.

“This has been evidenced in our most recent commitment to completing the youth pathway in Tain, working alongside Tain Juniors to bridge the gap between the youth and senior ranks in Tain by reintroducing an under-16 team to the Highland League this year.

“The best young players from Tain and the surrounding area will now be able to develop and hone their skills without having to leave the town, and that in itself is very exciting for the future.

“Since the club was reinstated to the North Caledonian League in 2016, we have appeared in multiple cup finals, and have enjoyed three memorable trophy wins, most recently winning the North Caledonian Cup in 2022.

“We want to enjoy more moments like those – and whoever it is that takes the helm will have the task of creating and reinforcing a renewed belief that we can move on to greater things.”
