Stop-start spell can be no excuse for Ross Sutherland in Caledonia North Bowl

Ross Sutherland will return to action this weekend looking to book their place in the final four of the Caledonia North Bowl.

The Stags are just a few wins away from a return to Murrayfield, where they won the National Bowl in 2018.

Standing in their way tomorrow afternoon are Turriff, who play one tier below the Invergordon outfit in the Caledonia North Three and received a bye into the quarter finals.

Turriff have a mixed record this season, with four wins and three defeats in their seven league matches, so Ross Sutherland should fancy themselves as favourites to progress in the knockout competition.

Although Ross Sutherland have not had the most stable end to the season, they have at least played more recently than their opponents.

While the Stags saw off Banff in the opening round two weeks ago, Turriff last played a competitive match on January 13.

Ross Sutherland have only completed two games since December 9, but while the lack of match action is far from ideal, they are determined not to use that as an excuse going into what could still be an extremely exciting conclusion to the campaign.

“It’s frustrating, but you’ve just got to deal with the hand you are dealt,” coach Murray Kennedy stressed.

“Games have been postponed for good reasons at the time, so we just have to deal with it. We could moan or make excuses, but I would hate to be saying that a stop-start schedule was the reason we didn’t achieve what we wanted to.

“For me, that’s not good enough. Everyone else is dealing with this as well, so we just have to get on with it.

“The Bowl is a knock-out competition, so how do the boys respond to that? It’s up to them. Hopefully we have a bit of success by the end of the season.”
