WATCH: Driver dominates from start to finish to win Snowman Rally for first time
GARRY Pearson dominated the Snowman Rally from start to finish as he won the title for the first time in his career on Saturday.
The Duns driver, along with co-driver Hannah McKillop in a Ford Fiesta Rally 2, claimed victory in the penultimate round of the Scottish Rally Championship.
Pearson finished the rally which took place through Inverness-shire and Ross-shire in a time of 39 minutes and 34 seconds.
He was 37 seconds ahead of John Wink of Huntly with co-driver Neil Shanks in second place who finished in 40:11 driving a Hyundai R20 i5.
Muir or Ord driver Scott Macbeth along with Elgin co-driver Daniel Forsyth in their Skoda Fabia 5 were third in 40:16.
Speaking about his victory, Pearson said despite suffering a puncture during the rally, was delighted with his performance.
He said: “It was a challenging day, but very rewarding and I am delighted to be on the top step of the podium.
“We get insights throughout the day and we can see what the previous car has done.
“We had a good idea that we were doing a good pace. I was a bit sloppy myself and picked up a puncture this afternoon. It was a tricky afternoon. But we got five out of six stage wins.
“In the last stage we were trying to be sensible and not make any mistakes, before that we were just trying to enjoy it.”
Pearson says he ranks his victory among one of the best in his career, but says he is looking for more success in the future.
He hopes to continue his good form in the British Championship in Wales next weekend.
He said: ”It is definitely up there, but I am looking to do a few more rally wins in my time and hopefully this is a wee stepping stone.
“We are sixth in the Championship but we are looking to finish as high as third. We were second last year, so we head down to Wales and look to do well there as well.
