Former Ross County star Yan Dhanda tops list of footballers who lost most matches in 2024 alongside current Hearts teammate

A former Ross County player left 2024 behind with what will be an unwanted record.

Transfermarkt, the football data analysis website, looked at the top 15 leagues they cover and found that nobody was on the losing side more often than Yan Dhanda.

Dhanda, who left the Staggies to sign for Hearts when his contract expired in Dingwall last summer, racked up 26 losses in his 43 matches across the calendar year.

Matching that tally, albeit in three fewer games, was Dhanda’s current Jambos teammate Malachi Boateng, who spent the first half of 2024 on loan at Dundee from Crystal Palace.

Equal with Dhanda was current Southampton, and former Sporting Lisbon and Estoril man Mateus Fernandes.

Wolves’ Mario Lemina also lost 26 games, but that was from 47 matches in total, a tally equalled by Montenegro and Lecce forward Nikola Krstović.

Two more Scottish-based players featured in the top 10, both featuring for St Johnstone.

Both Matt Smith and Adama Sidibeh were on the losing side 25 times, from 39 and 40 matches respectively.
